Advantage Core Goalkeeping
AGES 8-13
5pm - 7pm @ TSFThe Sports Factory Advantage Core Goalkeeping Class is open to players 8 thru 13. The curriculum is designed to teach goalkeeping fundamentals. It is very important at this age to have a good strong foundation so that the keeper can be allowed to grow with confidence and consistency. To achieve this, a high rate of repetition is needed to support the basic understanding of required skills and create muscle memory.
The curriculum created by goalkeeping coach Walter Gotrell, and with the assistance of the TSF coaching staff includes games and exercises focused on developing;
- Basic ball handling and footwork;
- Catching
- Shot-stopping;
- Diving techniques;
- Distribution;
- Angle coverage;
- Communication.
When a young keeper is successful with completing these tasks they will grow with a sense of accomplishment and confidence.
The sessions will be challenging and fun and a great way to get a head start on the upcoming season.
Advanced Advantage Core Goalkeeping
AGES 14-18
7pm - 9pm @ TSFThe Advanced Advantage Core Goalkeeper Training Class is designed for the advance keeper to enchance their technical and tactical understanding of the position. Using drills and game situations, the keeper will utilize these skills to reach his/her full potential.
Topics to be covered include:
- Physical and Mental Conditioning
- A conditioning program that can be carried out through the year to ensure peak physical performance.
- Mental exercises to remain focussed and alert from the start of the game to the end.
- Breakaways
- Winning the ball early
- Making the save as the shot is taken
- Standing up to the player and forcing them to make a decision.
- Dealing with crosses
- Collecting balls at height
- Collecting balls in a crowd
- What do when things go wrong.
- Playing off the goal-line
- Closing space behind the defenders
- Restarts
- Going back to goal on high shots
- Pass back to the goalkeeper
- Set-Pieces
- How to control your area
- Composure under pressure
- Catch, punch or tip
- Mental approach to penalty kicks
- Read/React/Guess
- Communication and Organization
- Confidence, tone, volume.
- Contact with last line of defense
- Control the box and players in it.
The emphasis of these sessions is to have a thorough review of all comprehensive skills. The coach will review and analyze the keeper's understanding of all aspects to ensure a confident and successful season.
